Unity Psychiatric Care Names Robert Edwards Administrator of Memphis Facility

Unity Psychiatric Care, a division of Franklin, Tennessee-based American Health Partners, has named Robert Edwards administrator of its Memphis, Tennessee location.

Edwards oversees operations for the psychiatric hospital, which provides compassionate and stabilizing care for seniors dealing with an acute mental health crisis, as well as behavioral complications from dementia. Treatment services include a comprehensive health and psychiatric evaluation, medication assessment, nutrition evaluation, pain assessment, therapeutic activities and educational support.

“Robert brings a special combination of both clinical and operational experience to his role at Unity Psychiatric Care,” said Michael Bailey, CEO of American Health Partners. “He has cared for and treated numerous patients firsthand, yet also understands the operational and business side of successfully running a hospital and leading a team.”

Edwards joins Unity Psychiatric Care from Lakeside Behavioral Health in Memphis, where he served as chief nursing officer for the 345-bed psychiatric facility. His responsibilities included clinical and financial oversight of the nursing practice, which offered residential treatment, partial hospitalization and electroconvulsive therapy/transcranial magnetic stimulation, among other inpatient stabilization services.

With more than 30 years’ experience, Edwards has held many leadership roles in hospitals and healthcare facilities, including chief operating officer and chief nursing officer of Delta Medical Center in Memphis. Edwards earned his Bachelor of Nursing from the University of Memphis, a Master of Business Administration in Technology/Project Management, as well as a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Phoenix. He also holds undergraduate degrees from Christian Brothers University and LeMoyne Owen College.

In addition to his extensive clinical and operational experience, he has expertise in electronic medical records applications and is trained as a Six Sigma Black Belt in process design. A life-long learner, he’s now working on a doctorate in nursing practice and expects to be get his certification in geriatric nursing later this year.
