Joint venture adds pharmacy serving Mississippi, Tennessee
American Health Partners announced it is expanding its long-term care pharmacy division, AmPharm, into Mississippi through a joint-venture agreement with LTC Pharmacy Solutions. The partnership enables AmPharm to provide custom-packaged medications and pharmacy services to 48 nursing homes and five psychiatric hospitals across Tennessee, Alabama and Mississippi.
With this transaction, AmPharm will begin providing pharmacy services to 19 nursing homes outside its own network of senior living and rehabilitation facilities. Many of these facilities will immediately experience a higher level of service, which includes nightly deliveries, enhanced IV services and a dedicated pharmacy technician managing their day-to-day needs.
“This is an excellent opportunity for our organization to improve access to pharmacy services to the nursing homes in our region,” said Michael D. Bailey, CEO of American Health Partners. “Amy Cruse, who leads the AmPharm team, is already laying the groundwork to ensure this acquisition will be successful and that our operations are positioned for growth.”
Long-term care pharmacies serve a critical role in senior and behavioral health care settings by working with facility providers to ensure patients with diverse health conditions receive appropriate medications. AmPharm’s team of pharmacists and technicians have developed a fulfillment system that improves compliance with prescribed medication regimens, reduces dosing errors and prevents drug interactions.
“Expanding our long-term care pharmacy services allows our organization to provide a complete continuum of care that’s efficient, high quality and cost-effective,” said Amy Cruse, vice president of pharmacy services for AmPharm. “As health care delivery and patient needs change, we will continue to seek partnerships that support our delivery of high-quality pharmacy services.”
AmPharm provides personalized, prepackaged medications that minimize human error and improve delivery efficiency. The division’s pharmacy team works closely with physicians to manage costs by monitoring drug formulary changes and suggesting generic substitutes and therapeutic equivalents when available.
