Unity Psychiatric Care, a division of American Health Partners of Franklin, Tennessee, announced that Dr. Donald Klasing has joined its Huntsville, Alabama, psychiatric hospital as medical director. Dr. Klasing, a board-certified psychiatrist with over 20-year experience, will oversee the hospital’s clinicians, who treat older adults suffering a mental health crisis or experiencing behavioral complications linked to dementia.
In addition to leading the hospital’s clinical team, Dr. Klasing will offer outpatient psychiatric services to adults of all ages from a medical suite at the facility with a separate entrance. He will also be available for telehealth services and visits to nursing homes.

Dr. Klasing is a graduate of the University of Alabama Birmingham School of Medicine and has been in practice for more than 20 years. Prior to joining our hospital, Dr. Klasing was medical director over inpatient and outpatient services for the psychiatry department of a regional healthcare system in North Carolina. During his tenure there, he helped develop key performance metrics to measure and improve patient outcomes. He also used telehealth services to extend access to care for patients unable to travel to him.
In his role as medical director for the Huntsville acute-care psychiatric hospital, Dr. Klasing will be providing direct care for hospital patients, as well as leadership for a multi-disciplinary team which includes psychiatric nurse practitioners. He maintains office hours at the hospital for outpatient care.
Besides his extensive clinical experience in behavioral healthcare, Dr. Klasing has a degree in engineering and served in the U.S. Navy. In his spare time, Dr. Klasing enjoys scuba diving and volunteers with the Boy Scouts.
