Residents of long term care facilities operated by two of Iowa’s preeminent senior care providers will now benefit from access to an enhanced level of proactive, coordinated healthcare through a new partnership announced today between American Health Plans , Care Initiatives and Accura Healthcare.
“Iowa’s expansion becomes 11th state to benefit from unique model of care”
The partnership, which will be implemented in 65 homes across the state, will give residents of participating Care Initiatives and Accura Healthcare facilities the opportunity to join American Health Plans provider-owned Institutional Special Needs Plan (ISNP). These Medicare Advantage special needs plans specifically cater to Medicare recipients who live in skilled nursing facilities. The plans deliver a coordinated care model that addresses all needed medical treatment and preventive services supported by TruHealth, an integrated care team that is led by a nurse practitioner or physician assistant to provide individualized health care services.
“We are looking forward to partnering with American Health Plans to further our mission of serving Iowa’s aging communities,” says Mike Beal, Chief Executive Officer for Care Initiatives. “Iowa Health Advantage will provide our long-term residents an opportunity to access even more high-quality care than a typical Medicare Advantage plan provides,” says Beal. “Residents who choose to participate in Iowa Health Advantage will have a plan that is tailored to their individual needs.”
“American Health Plans will assist Accura in our continued focus on improving quality care and ensuring the best possible outcomes while having the opportunity to care in place while utilizing their unique model of care and benefits,” says Mike Brown, Vice President of Marketing and Communications for Accura. “Accura residents will gain access to comprehensive health and wellness resources and services without having to take on extra costs.”
American Health Plans, the parent company of American Health Advantage, is now operating in 10 states. The Franklin, Tennessee-based health care company operates the largest provider-owned ISNP in the nation and plans to enter 50 new counties in 2023. The unique ISNP model of care improves health outcomes by bolstering medical services at the point of care while also reducing inefficient health care spending. “It’s exciting to be able to offer this enhanced model of care to residents in Iowa through this new partnership with Care Initiatives and Accura Healthcare,” said Jason Haney, vice president of operations, American Health Plans. “The ISNP model of care is an important innovation because it improves health outcomes by bolstering medical services at the bedside while also reducing wasteful and unnecessary health care spending,” Haney continued.
